Some tumbleweeds may blow by here

I’m heading out to Edinburgh today to try and entertain people there inundated with way too many live entertainment choices, so for the next month or so this blog will probably be a pretty desolate place. Not as desolate as where we’ll be performing as I hope to maybe send some updates from the road, but who knows what will happen?

If you’re feeling deprived of my irritating internet voice, Church Sign Revival will continue to updated every weekday. So subscribe to that to get gems like this:

See you all in September - I hope to take on a ridiculous bastardized accent from there, a la Madonna!

“I’m not interested in what Hollywood’s making! I don’t want to see them! I couldn’t possibly stay awake on the sets of any of these Spandex movies. I couldn’t do them with a straight face. You know, really. I’m not putting them down—it sounds like I am—but I’m not, they’re just not for me. I don’t care how much this one or that one pushes the envelope. It’s not something I’m interested in.” —William Friedkin

Shocked and Saddened - Paul Constant → slog.thestranger.com

But can you even say you’re “shocked” anymore in America when a young man murders and injures dozens of people in a matter of minutes? We’ve all lived through this before, dozens of times. The scale is always different, but the crime is the exact same. There’s nothing shocking about it anymore. I bet you the cable news networks have protocols and procedures written out in memos for this sort of thing happening. Because it happens all the fucking time. That’s the opposite of shocking. It’s a recurring problem. And rather than try to come up with solutions to this recurring problem, we mutter and mumble about being shocked and saddened, and we accuse each other of politicizing a tragic event.

“It seems like the people who bring kids to comedy shows often always want to sit up front, like “Our kid’s smart.” Well, you’re not smart. Because my act isn’t particularly filthy, but no one wants to see a kid in an adult nightclub. It just puts a chill on everyone. It puts a chill on the people around them. And then if you’re someone who’s dirty, who wants to talk to adults in an adult way, and some fucking awful couple brings their kid, it’s just disrespectful to everyone around them. Get a babysitter, or just buy a DVD with a bunch of filthy comedians on it.” —Todd Barry
